Just before the hour of Jesus’ greatest trial, being crucified, the disciples were given counsel that was intended by Christ to prepare them to face the temptation that they would face, seeing their Master being crucified. His words are recorded in Matthew 26: 41, “Watch and pray that you may not fall into temptation.” Why was it important for the disciples to pray? Jesus knew the strength that earnest prayer provides. Christ’s counsel is valid for us today, especially in light of the great tribulation Jesus warned about just before His return.
